Garden Project

In March 2011 we began to clear this disused area on the farm to create a garden. We constructed raised beds within the derelict chicken pens using timber from a barn that blew down in 2010. We have re-used and recycled as much as we can.

The area is now being used by young children from the Nursery and the older children from the Holiday Play scheme. We also look forward to having groups of adults coming to enjoy the benefits of it as a therapeutic space in the future.

Now with Spring in the air its back to growing again, the greenhouse is in full swing and the borders are starting to show colour with new plants and spring flowers pushing through! We have just planted a Hawthorn wind break on the south border and put in a row of Dogwood on the west border.

So far we have managed to complete the rockery, the nursery allotment, the herb garden, the composting area and have made a good start on the fruit tree area. We will continue through the Summer working on the cutting garden, the soft fruit cage, the bog garden, the stumpery, the wormery, and the bug hotel.

On the left is our border, showing good colour, below left we are sowing seeds, and below right is our first apple blossom!
