'Learn by doing whilst having fun at the same time' Bring your classes or groups to the Mohair
Centre for a school visit with a difference. A typical day we run combines Farming and Textiles. Farming They will involve themselves with all types of farm animals, the angora goat, the dairy goat, sheep, cattle, pigs and chickens. Milking and bottle feeding are always popular. For any children or adults who are unsure of animals, the Rabbit and Guinea Pig Village is the Group to choose. Textiles A brief introduction to fibre, carding and spinning The sessions are 2 to 3 hours in the morning or afternoon, approx. 10.00 to 12.30 or 12.30 to 3.00 Safety rules are spelt out before the children start. Full washing facilities (hot water and soap) are available. Hand washing will be emphasised throughout the visit. Please wear suitable farm cloths and footwear, we are a working farm. Pregnant women should avoid visiting the farm during the lambing/kidding season between March and May. A member of staff will lead your visit, organise your group and give them tasks to do There is a gift shop where we have a small selection of goodies for children to buy. Lunch - we have a picnic area and play area where packed lunches may be consumed away from the animals and there are undercover facilities should it be wet. Te and coffee making facilities for adults are available on a DIY basis in the Tea Room.
